Doctor's Appointment

James had his two-year well-child checkup yesterday afternoon. Here he is, in the waiting room:

We must have scheduled the appointment back when he was still taking two naps, because this one fell smack dab in the middle of his usual afternoon nap. He was not in a good mood for the medical student, but I bribed him with frosted mini-wheats and raisins and he perked back up for Dr. Swofford. Even more waiting:

He weighed 24 pounds, 11 ounces, which is around the 12th percentile and was 32.5 inches tall, which is around the 10th percentile. His giant-genius size head was 49 centimeters, which is around the 60th percentile.

Here are some things James is doing right now:
  • Climbing on everything and jumping off
  • Kicking a ball
  • Walking backwards
  • Mimicking everything Amelie does
  • Following one- and sometimes two-step directions (James likes to be helpful)
  • Counting (he can get all the way up to 10 if we alternate numbers with him, but I think he only has a solid grasp of what "one" and "two" actually mean)
  • Knows over 200 words, and often combines them in 2- and 3-word strings. He's said a few sentences up to 5 words long, though sometimes he's not very intelligible
  • Scribbles pictures
  • Knows his colors (and has a preference for a certain color of diaper, cup, etc. "Want blue one!")
  • Calls everything "baby one," "mama one," "dada one," "papaw one," etc. -- my grandma Doris says Aunt Lana turned everything into families, too
  • Pees on the potty several times a day (though we are still very much using diapers!)
  • Loves brushing his teeth
  • Is very affectionate
  • Is shy around new people
  • Really, really likes reading books
And here's a link to his 18-month visit for comparison.
