Swim Lessons

We did swim lessons at the ARC again this year, but due to general chaos after having the baby, the big kids ended up missing the first two lessons. I'm not sure if we'll sign up for another session later in the summer or not - they are also supposed to play t-ball and coach pitch, but we just got an email from Amelie's coach saying that not enough girls signed up to make 2 teams. And I think just swimming at the Buffaloes' pool and the ARC and Stephens Lake should be good enough practice without formal lessons.

Anyway, here are some pictures from Sam's phone.

Mother's Day

I already posted this on Facebook, but I said that I'd like a photo of me and all three kids for Mother's Day. Of course, we didn't manage it when everyone was wearing nice clothes for church, or over at Luke & Barb's when someone could have taken the photo so that Sam could be in it too, and then the kids insisted on standing on this rock so we get a background of our neighbor's house. I love it!

2 months old

Leah, Sam, and I went to her two-month well-child check yesterday.

Mostly, we talked about her weight. The doctor was really pleased with her gain since she started taking reflux meds (she's up a whole pound since she started it 12 days ago), and we got the green light to try nursing more, and we don't have to go back for 2 weeks, but she's still pretty small and I'm a little nervous.

Weight: 9 pounds, 8 ounces (10th percentile, just about 3 pounds more than when she was born)
Length: 1 foot, 9 inches (3rd percentile, 2 inches more than when she was born, though Dr. Buffaloe says this is not usually an exact measurement)
Head Circumference: 38.5 cm (50th percentile - she's got a giant, genius-sized head like her brother and sister!)
Shots: 3

Leah likes napping, being held and snuggling, being talked to, and taking a bath. She'll sleep a good long stretch at night, but just takes several short catnaps during the day, usually in the swing or bouncy chair. I should probably try to organize these into a more regular pattern. She takes Zantac twice a day - it's minty and she doesn't like it, and a Vitamin D drop once a day - she really likes the way this tastes for some strange reason.  She's been taking about 12 bottles with about 24 ounces of breastmilk each day, anywhere from 1 to 3.5 ounces at a time - again, she's on no kind of regular pattern, which is similar to breastfeeding for a two-month old, but I think that's a little unusual with bottles - and is a lot of dishwashing. We have stopped going to speech therapy since her suck has improved. (I met our speech therapist in the waiting room with her two-month-old waiting on their well-child visit, too). I think most of the problem must have been silent reflux since the Zantac helped so much so quickly, though she still can't seem to hold a pacifier in her mouth. We may have our first kiddo who doesn't love her binky. She also doesn't like it when people sneeze or riding in the car.

This is what Leah looks like at 2 months old!

Newborn Comparison

The other day, someone (probably James) left a blue highlighter on the floor without the cap on and it bled all over our green and cream striped blanket! Disaster! I used the rest of our rubbing alcohol and half a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, but I got it out. Whew!

Amelie:

James:

Leah didn't have any pictures in the blanket with her eyes open. I guess it was too cosy:

Sam commented when we got the photos of Leah from the hospital that "hey, that's the blanket that was in the pictures with James, too," like it was a coincidence :)

School Play

Amelie was Mother Goose in a 1st grade play at Ridgeway last night called "Mother Goose's Character Camp." She was very insistent that the costume needed a whistle.

She told me right as we were getting in the car that she had "duck legs and feet because goose legs and feet are black." And I knew that! I've seen geese! I blame pinterest, where I looked for costume ideas, and also probably the fact that Nana Jana and I put the costume together in about 15 minutes just a few days before the play.

However, she could have reminded me of this fact at some point in the costume-making process before we were literally leaving for the show! We had black leggings and black foam for the feet already!

She was a little distracted by her feathers, but she remembered all of her lines. The rest of the kids are campers, but Bo Peep and the Spider also had fun costumes. Sam and James and Leah and I all attended along with Nana Jana and the Buffaloes. The play lasted 15 minutes :)
