Doctor's Visits

James and Leah had their respective well-child checks and flu shots today.

I didn't remember there being a 2.5 year well-child visit with the other kids, but I just went along with it since she needed the flu shot anyway. The nurse asked Leah to sit down so that she could do her blood pressure, and Leah sat right on the floor.

Statistics!
Shots: 1
Height: 2 feet, 10.5 inches (21st percentile)
Weight: 27.3 pounds (32nd percentile)

I had James get his flu shot at the appointment with us, with the thought that Leah could watch him (since in the past it hasn't seemed to bother him); however that turned out not to be the case this time and he was a stinker about it, though I guess I saved the nurse at school some trouble. Here's him drawing on the back of his health survey:

So then Leah wanted to draw on hers, too (still on the floor):

Statistics!
Shots: 1
Height: 4 feet, 11 inches (31st percentile)
Weight: 57.5 pounds (77th percentile)

James is just one inch away from being able to go down the slide at the pool! Here are some other things that he's doing now that he's 7:
  • Reading very well! (Mostly graphic novels)
  • Learning how to ride his bike
  • Drawing very detailed pictures of superheroes and some basic comics
  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying (some)
  • Getting along better at school
  • Listening to pop music (Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, Imagine Dragons, Lucas Graham, the soundtracks to The Descendants and Zombies)
  • Lost his first tooth!
  • Still has a little difficultly with pronouncing some letters, but has lost almost all of his baby talk/lisp
  • Loves the computer, video games, and watching YouTube
  • Is very helpful with Leah and feeds Spark breakfast
  • Prefers to stay home, but usually enjoys himself if  he can be convinced to go out
  • Climbing (to reach things on the top of the fridge, for example)
  • Tries to write in cursive (mostly of his own invention)
We also talked about him developing some new allergies - he got hives all over his trunk, arms, and legs after eating Dippin Dots! So he's likely allergic to some component in the rainbow sherbet flavor. We went to the doctor and I said, "THESE ARE TERRIBLE!" and the doc responded that they were "textbook hives."

And also he's recently become pretty bothered by cat dander - sneezing, eyes watering, the whole shebang. Doctor Swofford said to make sure that he wasn't petting cats and he said that he'd slept with a kitten over at Nana Jana's & she said, "Well, definitely don't do that!"
