Reading
Reading is a pretty fun pastime in the Buffaloe household lately - maybe even on par with dancing.

Car Cart
Amelie loves the car cart at Schnuck's.

No!
Amelie's been saying "No" quite a bit. Sometimes, when she's playing by herself, she'll even say "No, no, no" in a sing-song voice to her baby dolls.
She also says "No!" when she means "Snow!" Almost all of the snow has melted, but she'll still stop and point at the one patch of "No!" in the yard.

Playing Catch-Up
Here are (finally!) the last of the pictures from the Buffaloes last trip out to Missouri. I just barely got them in before they'll be here again next week.

Now, when Amelie sees an old man, she shouts out "Pa! Pa!" She misses her grandpa!
This was the only picture I managed to get of Grandma Mary Beth. She's nearly as good at dodging pictures as I am.
We even had to coax her into this shot -- the babies and Grandpa look like they're having a grand time.
Honestly, this is the best one I got. Amelie only looks a little bit frightened, but that's just par for the course when it comes to group photos. Like this one, this one, or this one.

Belated Buffaloe Post
The Buffaloes came to Columbia over New Year's to celebrate Christmas with their red-headed grandbabies.
We opened lots of presents.
But the "Boons" from Uncle Joe were probably the most exciting.
Grandpa helped blow them up.
There was a fair amount of climing and general oneriness:
The grownups had fun, too.
Uncle Joe was highly entertaining.
Clearly, these two didn't get any presents for Christmas. They were forced to make due with a dog collar, and ink pen, and a glasses case.

Update
Update
I just went on Amazon.com, and found that a replacement camera cord is only $4, so I’ve finally ordered a new one. (I know that means that sometime tomorrow or the next day I’m surely going to find ours stuffed somewhere in a cabinet or hamper by Amelie.)
In the meantime, I thought the BabyBuffaloe blog readers were due for a written update at least.
Amelie knows a bunch of different body parts. She likes to point them out on herself, her doll, Mickey Mouse, her bear, her baby, the dog, and us. She knows:
• Eye
• Mouth
• Ear
• Hair
• Belly Button
• Nose
• Chin
• Chest
• Knee
• Foot
• Hand
• Butt
• Fingers (this is the one we’re learning right now)
She’s also started potty training while she’s at home (she’s still in diapers at daycare for now). She’s gone dozens of times on the froggy potty and has recently started sitting on the big commode. Mostly, we’re learning to time it just right, but I think it’s still helping. She likes to make the finger motions for “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and sing the first part of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” while we’re all hanging out in the bathroom.
In other news, I’m finishing up the second week of my semester, still teaching at MACC in Columbia during the day and at Columbia College in Jefferson City two nights a week. Amelie goes to daycare from 8:00am to 12:30 each day, and then either my sister or my friend Shauna watches her in the gap between when I have to leave those two evenings a week and when Sam gets home from work. Sam’s enjoying his job arguing appeals for the state department of revenue (drunk driving cases). He also has to commute, but he can ride with four other friends from law school.
Hopefully, there will be picture updates within the week!

Steppin' Out

Drum Set
Amelie got a drum set from her grandparents! They mentioned something about pay back. We've got a much bigger, much noisier version in the basement, but I think the kid-sized play set isn't half bad. (I suppose I may re-think my position in the future.)
Here's a video of Amelie and Dada taking turns playing on her drums. (And also of some hitting. Oh my goodness, the hitting.)

Bootheel Christmas
Amelie's still too little to really understand what's going on for the holiday, but she did have a very good visit to the bootheel over Christmas. We spent Christmas Eve with her great-grandparents in Kennett and Christmas night in Bernie. Amelie got to play with her cousin Rylee, go see the other toddlers at Sunshine School, play Bingo, open presents, and eat entirely too many sweets.
I can't believe we didn't get a big group photo! Uncle Darrin did a good job distracting the baby long enough to get one good picture of just us, though.

Christmas Program
Amelie's day care had a Christmas program last week.
The kids spelled out "Christmas," and Amelie had the "M." (Amy had the "A," and when she came up to the front, she shouted "A is for Amy!" which I don't think was a part of the official program.)
It was on the first night of Hanukkah, so one of our neighbors came over to tell the kids a little bit about the menorah.
They were fascinated by lighting the candles.
There were also pom-poms.
